[08/20/2000] Complete News StoryPresident Clinton's recently unveiled 1999 budget includes $5.7 million to buy land around the Gettysburg battlefield -- including a privately-owned 310 foot tall observation tower that almost everybody hates. "There is no better symbol for the need to preserve the Gettysburg battlefield than taking down this tower," said Interior Secretary Bruce Babbitt, quoted by the AP.
