Metal two-sided cutout of Black Hawk, a native American, towers above a nearly empty shopping center. The sign was blown down in a windstorm on April 4, 2023, and the town hasn't yet decided if Black Hawk should be put back up.

The Chief Black Hawk metal sign that stood for over 60 years fell during a storm on April 4, 2023. It was removed from the location by the City of Rock Island and stored until a decision on what will become of it.
[Amy, 04/06/2023]Yesterday a storm took this statue down (Black Hawk Down!). A member of the Kickapoo tribe erected a tent on site and will be staying to protect the statue from vandals. Due to ongoing controversy it is unknown weather it will be put back up or moved to a new location.
[Nassa, 04/05/2023]The Black Hawk statue is no longer standing. It was knocked down during a storm. Unsure if it will be erected again.
