Head-Smashed-In, World's Most Lavish Buffalo Jump
This is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, a little off the beaten track. It has been inhabited by people for at least 9,000 years by dated arrowheads, and used as a buffalo jump site for 6.000 years. The museum tells about Plains Indian culture and how they managed to survive on the prairie before horses and guns.
Summer events include demonstrations of First Nations' culture; check website for schedules. There are shuttles from the parking lots up the hill and back.

The fabulous visitor center is almost completely buried in the side of a cliff. You enter in the lower level, take an elevator to the top floor, and work your way back down, completely underground, through the exhibits. There are several walking paths that take you to outdoor viewing areas. Archeological digs are ongoing, both inside and out.

You can either take a free shuttle bus or walk up an enormous hill from the parking lot. Take the bus! When you get to the building, you start touring from the top so you can follow the exhibits chronologically.
