Buried in his Pontiac
Saluda, South Carolina
Lonnie Holloway was a man who got what he wanted. In the end, what he wanted was to be buried in his car.
Holloway began his posthumous planning three years before he died at age 90. He told his sister, who he correctly guessed would outlive him, that he wanted to be buried sitting in the driver's seat of his green 1973 Pontiac Catalina. He purchased a large cemetery plot next to a lightly used road, so the car could easily be driven to the grave site. He also told his sister that he wanted all of his guns piled on the passenger seat and buried with him, so they couldn't be used to kill anyone.
Holloway, his car, and his guns were buried on September 8, 2009. He's still sitting down there in the Catalina, dressed in his best suit and favorite hat.
