Station 15: Wild West Dummies
Norton, Kansas
An old stagecoach stop, "Station 15," offers Old School A/V entertainment. Push a button on the outside wall and watch immobile paper mache figures -- created by Ruby Meyer and her daughter Melissa Nelson -- through glass windows, as a creaky recorded narration tells their stories.
What makes Station 15 especially entertaining is that it creates an alternative reality of legendary Wild West figures. The excuse is that all of these real people stopped by or lived at Station 15 at some point, so why not have them there all at the same time?
For example, a teenage girl dressed as a boy is in the custody of a Pinkerton detective, the future Judge Roy Bean, while the stagecoach drivers are the soon-to-be-famous William "Wild Bill" Hickok and sheriff Pat Garrett, who will later kill the little boy seen in the Station -- the infant Billy the Kid!
