Considerable Corn
Corn captures the admiration of a handful of Midwestern and plains states towns, from Ohio to South Dakota. The Libby Foods corn water tower in Rochester, MN, stands tall and undigested. Corn statues can be found in Olivia, MN, and in abundance in Dublin, OH
In Olivia, Minnesota, a single half-husked cob towers over a roadside gazebo. Built in 1973, the fiberglass ear is 25 feet tall.
The field of corn in Dublin, Ohio, was created in 1994 by Columbus Artist Malcolm Cochran. There are 109 six foot tall ears, arranged in a pattern of rows. According to local tipster Emily, it's a giant sculptured political statement. "The artist wanted to depict the industrialization and destruction of Ohio's farmlands by making a sculpture of corn, once Ohio's most prolific crop, out of the most industrial and cheap product he could find, hence the cement."
